ASA3 - University of Edinburgh

The third Annual Student Archaeology Conference: Developing Integrated Archaeology will be held at the School of History, Classics and Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh on 11-12th June 2015.

The call for papers and registration for ASA 2015 is now closed and we are looking forward to seeing you all in Edinburgh soon!

The topics covered fall broadly into the following four categories:

  • Scientific Archaeological Methods
  • Archaeology beyond Academia
  • Applied Archaeological Theory
  • Historical Archaeology

There will also be a round table session on transitioning between academic and commercial archaeology which will involve informal discussions with specialists from different branches of career archaeology: commercial, museums, academia, and forensics. The list of confirmed participants include Dr Alison Sheridan (National Museums Scotland), Dr Andy Heald (AOC Archaeology Group), Gaille MacKinnon (Forensic Anthropology and Anthropology, University of Dundee) and David Connolly (BAJR, Past Horizons) who will discuss the various careers and opportunities open to archaeology students.

Download the detailed Conference Information Pack which includes information about the venue, trips, accommodation, getting here and all the abstracts. For an up-to-date programme, please follow the link further below.

View of Edinburgh

In the meantime, we have developed an exciting Conference programme which includes lecture and poster sessions, coffee breaks and lunches, wine reception, a keynote lecture h by none other than the legendary Professor Lord Colin Renfrew - yes, you heard us correctly, the guy who literally (co)wrote your textbooks! Plus optional trips and visits to some of Edinburgh's historical sites and locations. The full schedule can be viewed here.

We know student life can be financially demanding so we have decided to cap the registration fee at £10 (and this includes lunch and refreshments on both days). On site registration will be £15 (exact change only).

For updates, follow the official ASA social media pages (on the right), or the respective pages for ASA2015 (Facebook, Twitter, Google+).
We also have a page on the University of Edinburgh website which you can check out for additional information.
